Matthews Real Estate Investment Services is looking for a self-motivated staff accountant to join the team. The staff accountant position has a primary responsibility for managing General Accounting, Accounts Payable and Receivable, and Payroll operations and participating in special projects as applicable. This person will also be responsible for the management of corporate and all business unit general ledgers and ensuring that accounts are reconciled in accordance with GAAP and policies, procedures and internal controls are followed and enforced. We are looking for a self-starter that can identify and implement process improvements and is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Manage daily cash and credit card transactions
  • Process invoices and manage accounts receivable including collections and correspondence
  • Record and reconcile employee expense reports and reimbursements
  • Manage entire AP Processing including but not limited to, syncing bill.com to various accounting systems, W9 record keeping, and various vendor correspondences
  • Assist Senior Accountant with payroll system and payroll related items (recording GL transactions, reports, etc.)
  • Assist with balance sheet accounts reconciliations as part of the monthly close process
  • Assist with tax filings and documentation management
  • Assist with 1099 tax filings
  • Perform ad hoc accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be required

REQUIREMENTS

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • CPA license or working towards CPA licensure a plus
  • 2+ years of accounting experience
  • High proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups and various commonly used formulas in the accounting industry)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer proficiency with a strong understanding of Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and proficient time management, ability to multi-task and the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical skills, organizational skills
